I went to an exhibition called 'BLUE JEANS' in the Central Museum of Utrecht this week. As the name already says the exhibition was about jeans. I learned so much about the now a days simple piece of clothing and didn't knew it has so much history. In former times the jeans wasn't accepted as a daily wearable garment. The famous Levi Strauss moved from Germany to California and created a fabric that could resist the tough work in the coal mines. Our guide was telling us about the first people who whore jeans. Which where the mine workers in California. It is funny to see the jeans of the mine workers didn't look much different then the jeans we all wear now (second picture). On the pictures you see an atelier, a glued jeans and other garments made of jeans fabric. On the second last picture you can see in the bad working conditions of the people who are dying jeans with indigo. Dying jeans requires a lot of water and is really polluting.

holy crap. Those jackets!!
ReplyDeleteHow the heck did you hold back from just nabbing those suckers off the wall and wearing them out? The woven collar on that last one is making me drool.
That's so awesome that you had such a cool exhibition nearby. Wish we had stuff like that. Thanks so much for sharing it and letting us live vicariously through you.
Cheers!
